The Capstone Editing’s Grant for Professional Thesis Editing—Terms and Conditions

1. Introduction

  • 1.1 Capstone Editing recognises that professional thesis editing is crucial to academic success and this grant is aimed at students who could not otherwise afford to access such a service.
  • 1.2 The Capstone Editing Grant for Professional Thesis Editing provides one PhD student and one Masters student per year with free thesis editing (performed by Capstone Editing) for their postgraduate thesis (one thesis each).
  • 1.3 The Grant is provided in the form of free thesis editing (performed by Capstone Editing) and cannot be deferred, transferred or converted to cash.

2. Eligibility Criteria

  • 2.1 In order to be eligible for the Grant:
    • 2.1.1 subject to clause 2.2, the applicant must be enrolled on a full-time basis in a postgraduate degree (PhD or Masters, research or coursework) at an Australian or New Zealand university in the calendar year that the Grant is awarded;
    • 2.1.2 the applicant can be studying internally or externally;
    • 2.1.3 the applicant can be a domestic or international student; and
    • 2.1.4 the applicant cannot be an employee or contractor of Capstone Editing (or be an immediate relative of an employee or contractor of Capstone Editing).
  • 2.2 Part-time students are eligible to apply provided that they can demonstrate to Capstone Editing’s satisfaction that carer commitments or a medical condition prohibit them from studying full time.
  • 2.3 Any determination on eligibility of an applicant shall be made by Capstone Editing whose decision shall be final.

3. Application Process

  • 3.1 Applications for the Grant shall be made in writing in the form determined by Capstone Editing. (Currently an online form on the website www.capstoneediting.com.au.)
  • 3.2 Applications must be submitted between 1 November and 31 October (in the following calendar year).
  • 3.3 Capstone Editing’s decision to accept or reject an application shall be final.
  • 3.4 By submitting an application, the applicant agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions.

4. Award of the Grant

  • 4.1 The Grant shall be awarded once each calendar year on 7 November.
  • 4.2 The Grant shall be awarded on academic merit and financial need as determined by Capstone Editing in its absolute discretion. The decision made by Capstone Editing shall be final.
  • 4.3 Capstone Editing shall announce on Capstone Editing’s website the successful recipients of the Grant on 7 November each calendar year that the Grant is awarded.
  • 4.4 The successful recipients of the Grant will be notified in writing and subject to compliance with clause 6.2, can make use of the free thesis editing service any time within the following 12 months. The recipients must nominate an expected date by which they will use the Grant and notify Capstone Editing of any changes to their schedule. The recipients must give Capstone Editing one month’s notice of when they will submit their thesis to Capstone Editing for editing.
  • 4.5 In accepting the Grant, the successful recipients agrees to be bound by the terms and conditions placed on the Grant by Capstone Editing.
  • 4.6 Capstone Editing can elect to cease providing the Grant at any time without further notice.

5. Release

  • 5.1 Capstone Editing is not liable for the payment of any tax or any other obligations the successful applicant may incur as a result of accepting the grant. The successful applicants must seek appropriate financial advice prior to accepting the Grant.

6. Promotion

  • 6.1 The details of the recipients of the Grant, including name, school, degree, thesis abstract and photograph will be used by Capstone Editing for promotional purposes, including but not limited to Capstone Editing’s website, social media channels, blog, print and electronic media.
  • 6.2 It is a precondition of the award of the Grant that the recipients provide their details including name, school, degree, thesis abstract and photograph to Capstone Editing for use in accordance with clause 6.1.
  • 6.3 By accepting the Grant, the recipients expressly agree and consent to Capstone Editing using their details including name, school, degree, thesis abstract and photograph for promotional purposes as set out in clause 6.1.
  • 6.4 Capstone Editing agrees that it shall in no way use the details provided in accordance with clause 6.2 for any purpose other than as set out in clause 6.1 without the express written consent of the recipients.
  • 6.5 The recipients waive the right to inspect or approve the finished product, the advertising copy or other matter that may be used in connection therewith or the use to which is may be applied.

7. Privacy

  • 7.1 Capstone Editing’s privacy policy applies to all applications for the Grant received by Capstone Editing.
  • 7.2 A copy of Capstone Editing’s privacy policy will be provided to you upon written request or alternatively can be found at www.capstoneediting.com.au/privacy-policy.
  • 7.3 By making an application, the applicant consents to Capstone Editing using the information contained in the application to verify the eligibility of the applicant including, without limitation, consenting to Capstone Editing contacting the relevant university to verify the accuracy of the application.
