Dr Melody Watson, Editor at Capstone Editing

Dr Melody Watson

Editor

  • PhD Humanities (History), University of Adelaide
  • Honours in History, University of Adelaide
  • Bachelor of Arts (History and Classical Studies), University of Adelaide

Dr Melody Watson is a historian, writer, poet and academic editor. She taught and researched at the University of Adelaide for over half a decade before coming to work at Capstone Editing. Her experience as a researcher and editor is supplemented by her extensive work in educational enhancement, program development and community management roles.

In her PhD thesis, Dr Watson investigated political and media discourses about the Soviet Union during the late Cold War. Her diverse research interests include everything from the politics of sexuality in Wikipedia biographies through to depictions of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in pop culture and the uses of history in games.

A keen love of language and writing has led Dr Watson to pursue a career in academic editing. She finds the process of revising and editing every bit as creative and essential as the initial act of writing. She has put this belief into practice throughout her career, including as an editor for History in the Making, an Australian student history journal, as a creative, and as an educator.
